Glenn G Rex, CLU, ChFC
Glenn entered the insurance industry in 1951 selling life insurance. The need for life insurance was made known to Glenn at age 21, in a very personal way, when his own father died suddenly leaving his mother and younger siblings -“ if only” his parents had purchased some. Glenn was an Agent, District sales manager, State sales manager, and Agency Manager for Gleaner Life, Motorists Mutual, Lincoln National, and Transamerica Occidental Life. In 1967 he began Planned Insurance Counseling, Inc., which later became REX-POE Insurance.He earned numerous sales awards including Gleaner Life “ Man of the Year”, Transamerica Occidental’s top 14 pension salesman, Leading Producer’s Club, and Safeco Insurance Companies Award of Excellence.
Glenn’s commitment to professionalism was exhibited by his desire for more knowledge. He completed the Life Insurance Marketing Institute and the Fraternal Agency Management Program; earned the coveted Chartered Life Underwriter(CLU) designation from the American College of Life Underwriters, Bryn Mawr, Pa. in 1963; the Certificate in Pension Planning from the American College of Life Underwriters in 1967; became a member of the Cleveland Estate Planning Council; was named President of the Lake-Geauga Life Underwriters Association 1967-68; and earned the Chartered Financial Consultant(ChFC) designation in 1982, from the America College, Bryn Mawr, PA.
Glenn also served his local community as a member of Rotary International from 1959 to 1997, serving in every capacity possible and being named a “Paul Harris Fellow”. In1967 Glenn was named to a seven member board for the newly established Geauga County Mental Retardation Board. He served on this board from 1967 to 1981, again in every capacity possible, watching the school develop to handle the needs of the mentally and physically disabled. Glenn has been a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Chesterland, Ohio from 1961 to present, having served numerous times as Deacon and Elder.Glenn and his wife Ethel have four children, 12 grandchildren, and one great grandson.
Merry R Poe CPCU, CLU
Merry began her career in insurance in 1978 with the prompting of her father to become licensed to sell insurance -“it’s something you can always fall back on to earn a living”. She graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in May 1980 and promptly began her insurance career, first with Shelby Mutual Insurance Company as an Underwriter Trainee; then onto Johnson & Higgins Brokers ; and finally as an Agent with Planned Insurance Counseling, Inc. , which later was became REX-POE Insurance Agency.
In 1987 Merry was named to the Marquis Who’s Who of American Women. Desiring to increase her insurance knowledge and professionalism, Merry earned the coveted Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter(CPCU) designation by the American Institute for Property and Liability Underwriters, Malvern, PA. in 1988. That same year she was also named Vice President of REX-POE Insurance Agency and received the Safeco Insurance Company “Insurance Achievement Award”. Five years later in 1993, Merry was namedPresident of REX-POE Insurance. Continuing her insurance knowledge, Merry also earned the coveted Chartered Life Underwriters (CLU) designation from the American College, Bryn Mawr, PA in 1996. At that time, Merry was one of a few women in the state of Ohio to hold the dual designations of CPCU and CLU. In 2004, Merry was asked to serve on the Cleveland Society of Financial Service Professionals Board of Directors. She served on theBoard, working up to Executive Vice President, and then became the first female to be President in 2008. During this time Merry was named to the Cambridge Registry of Who’s Who of Executives and Professionals in 2006, and became a member of the National Association of Health Underwriters.
Merry has served her local community as a Welcome Wagon member and President; coach for the West Geauga Baseball Federation and West Geauga Rec Council soccer;Christ Presbyterian Church Elder, Nursery School Board member and President, Sunday School Teacher and Pioneer Club church youth leader. She most recently served as an Advisory Board Member to Breckenridge Village-an Ohio Presbyterian Retirement community from 2004-2010. Merry and her husband Greg, are Miami University Alumni Lifetime members. They and their five children have resided in Chesterland, Ohio for the past 20 year and are members of Fellowship Bible Church, in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.
